“I do not pretend to be a divine man, but I do believe in divine guidance, divine power, and in the fulfillment of divine prophecy. I am not educated, nor am I an expert in any particular field – but I am sincere, and my sincerity is my credentials.”
-el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz (Malcolm X)

How do you miss someone you never met?

How do you tell them: The moment our stories exchanged glances, you became an age-old friend.

How do you say, When your voice stopped speaking from the page and a stranger wrote of your death, I felt my breath catch, and, for the first time, a book made me weep.

How do you tell someone who died twenty-six years before you were born:

Your friendship. Your story. Your voice, changed me.

It changed me.

The great live on, even in death.

May you rest in the sweetest peace,
in gardens underneath which rivers flow.
